Today's progress

Some of the shots I took today show how the building will meet the needs of the occupants -- with lots of light, windows that open, and space for students to meet and hang out between classes.

Building Progressing!

I haven't posted for some time because I was away from the campus working on an International program.

In February, the campus staff and faculty had the opportunity to go on a tour of their new home and seemed quite pleased with the work in progress.

Bursary Donors Go on Tour of New Building

On Thursday, February 10, the annual Donor Bursary Awards Ceremony took place at the Perth Campus. Generous donors gave out $15,000 in bursaries to 30 students at Perth who met their criteria and demonstrated financial need. After the ceremony, we gave them a tour of the new facility. It's close to being closed in, with most walls framed, window frames installed in most openings, and the last of the complicated roof truss sytem going up.

Roof On the Trades Building

In the past week, some framing inside the new building has taken place, and you can see clearly where the new student fitness centre will be, the layout of the adminstrative area, and the cafeteria and student lounge. The trades building is all closed in now, with the roof in place and the mezzanine level visible.

Construction in January

The construction crews continue to work around the challenges of cold, snow and the Canadian winter. The final group of roof trusses are going up on the student commons. Some interior work is being finished in the academic wing. The natural gas connections are in place. The roof deck and much of the roof is finished now on the trades building. Those sections of the trades building that look unfinished will be covered with wood siding for now, and eventually with masonry work completed the the Heritage Masonry program students.

Cold week for roofing.

Most days were clear and crisp this week, but the roofers looked pretty cold. Earlier today, the crew putting shingles on the roof had leaf blowers out -- blasting the snow off so they could put more shingles down.

Student Commons Trusses Go Up

At the end of this week, the roof trusses which had been assembled on the ground, started to go up over the administrative offices and student commons area (library, cafeteria, student lounge). Now the complete building shape is visible.

Crews worked all week on the trades building, too, getting it ready for roofing.
